Students personify a vocab word taking into consideration the definition. This activity requires a certain level of abstract thought and is not made for grades below high school. That being said, I've not tried this activity with freshman. This activity probably will not fill a whole 45 minute class. I usually have bellwork, a mini-activity like going over connotation vs denotation, this activity, and if we have time we share what we came up with. I usually rotate vocab activities. This activity is not a staple of mine when teaching vocab. It is made for the teacher that teaches a lot of vocab and wants to try something new.
