This product offers different ways for a teacher to learn more about their classroom reader; whether it be at the start of the school year or even a new student. It also contains different forms that can be used to setup a Reader’s Notebook. These elements are neither grade nor year specific.
These elements include:
~Reading Inventory – This activity is for students to complete to help you to become more knowledgeable about your students’ interests. This comes in a colored and a black and white version.
~ Reading Goals - This is a perfect way to start the school year with getting to know goals that your students will want to make for this school year.
~ Schema ~ Students love this activity. Students are given the same squiggle line to add onto, to create a picture. This is a great way for students to understand that each of us comes with different experiences and background knowledge that we bring with us when we read. Even though it is the same line; students will see completely different things. This comes in a colored and a black and white version.
~Notebook Reading Log – A reading log that contains spaces for the date the book was completed, the title, the genre and a five-star rating for the students to fill in.
~Notebook Graph – This graph can be placed in a Readers’ Notebook for students to shade in as they read a book from a particular genre. Genres include poetry, historical fiction, realistic fiction, mystery, fantasy, informational text, bio/autobiography, and their choice.
~Book for “Sale” Book Commercial Form – Perfect for a Readers’ Response notebook. This form is a guideline to help students provide a summary of the story/book to promote to their classmates. It also allows the teacher to determine if the student is understanding the text.
***For notebook activities, I shrink my pages to 80% when copying for the class, so that it fits in their Readers’ Response Notebook.
