This easy to implement project gets students thinking about D=RT with real data that they collect as they go to school. Students time their commute and find the distance from their home to school using google maps. Once they have collected data for a week they use the equation D=RT to calculate their average speed.
This is a great way to extend learning and provide students with an opportunity to work with real-world data.
