State testing now requires that we teach Greek and Latin Roots. This year long unit takes 71 roots designated 4th grade and groups them into manageable study cards. Each card designates whether it is Greek or Latin root and is followed by a multiple choice selection to determine meaning.
The flexibility of this unit allows for you to use the cards as entry/exit tickets, flashcards for center or independent work, or project the a master page and give a mini-quiz throughout the year.
Teacher notes on how I teach the roots each Monday-
A list of the 71 roots
black lines and color options for the cards
An additional resource giving examples of words that use the roots
A grid type answer key for "student helpers" to use when checking the entry/exit tickets
And directions to access 4 quizzes I have on the internet response system "Kahoot!" if you would like.
I hope you find this simple card system as enjoyable as my students and parents have...
I love helping my students get to the root of vocabulary. They love "decoding" words with their new found knowledge.
