Product Description
You send your students out to a location on campus and tell them to take notes about that place, opening up all their senses while they do this. Then their assignment is to write "take-the-reader-there" thick description.

Translation: Can they observe, listen, feel, smell (and maybe even taste, if appropriate) and capture such sensations in their writing--without lacing their prose with their own opinion?

Here is a short, fun exercise that will help them become proficient, multi-sensory writers of thick description.
