We've all been there, practicing flashcards with the students. Little Timmy is poking the girl next to him. Sienna is playing with her shoelaces. And you wonder- how can I make them pay attention so they can learn their letters and sounds!
One solution is to play GHOST. GHOST encourages students to pay attention- because they are waiting for the ghost card to show up so that they can stand up and moan like a spirit.
GHOST allows them to get the wiggles out by letting them move productively.
GHOST helps their self esteem because no matter what answer they give you- you the teacher use it as a Springboard to help them learn what you really need them to, their letters and sounds.
Gloria only knows that the bat on the letter Bb card is black? You tell her- "that's right Gloria the bat is black. Bat begins with Bb- everybody say Bb /b/."
And have I mentioned that kids love to play it?
The game can be printed as is for super large whole group cards- or smaller (2 or 4 to a page) for small groups. I hope you and your kids will enjoy it as much as mine!
