Jewel Parker Rhodes visits the issues of race and police violence in her award-winning novel, Ghost Boys. Ghost Boys Overview. Drawing connections to the past, Ghost Boys tells the story of Jerome, a young Black boy who is shot and killed by a white police officer for playing with a toy gun. Throughout the novel Jerome's ghost wrestles with the injustice of racism, explores the complexities of policing, and tries to make the only kind of change he can.
