This unit is a paired non- fiction/fiction differentiated unit used with The Magic Tree House books- Ghosts and Good Night for Ghosts. We purchase enough copies so students can partner read the Fact Tracker. Students are encouraged to work together but students can work independently.
Students take notes on each chapter as they are reading. They focus on two details for each chapter heading and each sub-heading.
Students extend their knowledge by learning important vocabulary words, places and people. We have also included a printable for students to use so they are actively reading the sidebars.
Alphabet Soup allows students to use the information read and recorded to create a sentence summarizing facts from the text beginning with a "surprise" letter in the alphabet. This helps them to synthesize information from the text.
Included in this 21 page unit are:
2. Fact recording printable for each chapter
3.Vocabulary and Important Places and People printable
4. Jack And Annie Sidebar Facts printable
5. Alphabet Letters for teacher use
6. Alphabet Soup printable for each chapter
The fiction story Good Night for Ghosts can be read as a read aloud. Students have success with listening comprehension because the author pairs the two books connecting facts and ideas. This book can be purchased or checked out from the library.
