This game provides a highly engaging and fun way for your students to practice their mental math, and it's perfect to keep your early finishers occupied with a challenging task. Add a bit of friendly competition to your classroom by hanging the two score boards for all to see!
The file comes with a game board (which can be printed onto 2 A3 pieces of paper and stuck together), two score boards, 34 game pieces and 48 number cards.
The aim of the game is to achieve the highest score possible. Players stick the Tetris pieces to the board. They must start at the base line and can only place pieces above or next to other pieces (just like in the traditional Tetris computer game, you could not place a piece floating at the top of the board because it would fall down). The pieces cannot overlap and players should endeavour to leave as few spaces as possible to achieve a high score.
Players must use mental math to both add and subtract the amounts shown on the pieces. Players can pick and choose which pieces they wish to stick to the board in order to achieve the highest score possible. Once a piece has been placed, it cannot be taken off the board for the remainder of the game.
When the board is filled with pieces, players record their total score on the ‘Current Score’ board. The player who holds the highest score of all time can display their score on the ‘High Score’ board.
