Students will use catalogs and websites to create a gift bag for their birthday party. The teacher will assign a different number of party attendees to each student. (I used between 7 and 14. I would skip 12 because a lot of supplies come in a dozen and you will want your students to actually do the calculations.)
Students will set up proportions to find the cost of 1 item. Once the students find the unit price, they will need to find the cost to buy each person at their party an item by setting up a proportion.
Students will do this for all 8 items that they are putting in their gift bag.
Students will present the information on a poster board, a packet including pictures, or in an actual bag with pictures.
