The Westward Expansion Vocabulary Mat can be used with students in a variety of ways.
As a class set:
Teachers can print class sets of the vocabulary sheets and have the definitions and images cut in envelopes for students to complete vocabulary review activities during class. (I have glued the vocabulary sheets into manila folders and put the cut cards in an envelope in the folder for students to use).
This activity allows for students to play tic-tac-toe to review. Have students work with a partner, each student draws an equal number or tiles and take turns using their definitions to try to win tic-tac-toe while preventing their opponent from doing the same
In student Notebooks, Binders or Folders:
Have students glue the term sheet into their notebooks (or put into their binders). Give each student an envelope and allow them to cut out the definitions and image cards. They can keep the cut cards in the envelopes and should be encouraged to review the vocabulary during class time or at home.
