This packet is aimed to support an in-class activity where the teacher first models cartoon analysis and then asks students to practice those skills on their own. Beginning with a powerpoint that includes three famous Gilded Age cartoons, students and teacher will describe and analyze what each cartoon says about the relationship between government and big business. Then students will study cartoons and other printed matter related to labor unions and evalute the effectiveness and advantages/disadvantages of labor unions at the time. Great activity to break up lecture and work in skills during a unit on the Gilded Age!
Note: the file you are purchasing includes sa Powerpoint with three cartoons for whole-class instruction and then a 5 page packet where students can write descriptions and analyses during the whole-group instruction and then also investigate cartoons and answer questions individually.
