Combine pretend play and play dough with articulation practice for holiday fun with these gingerbread cookie themed play dough mats. Practice saying target sounds while making play dough gingerbread boys and girls on a cookie sheet mat. Use your own spatula to transfer the cookies to a mat featuring a plate and a tall glass of milk, saying the words again. Add gingerbread men cookie cutters for even more fun, realistic play that all children love!
Articulation targets include S, SH, CH, TH, R and L in initial, medial and final positions, J (as in "jump") in the initial and final positions, and S, R and L Blends.
This set includes:
23 cookie sheet mats with 8 target sound pictures on each mat
2 plate mats for stacking play dough pancakes
1 recipe for gingerbread scented play dough
Print mats on card stock and laminate.
Give each student a cookie sheet mat to use, 8 small play dough balls (I like to make the play dough balls ahead of time), and a plate mat.
The students take a play dough ball and pat it onto a circle on the cookie sheet mat, saying the target word three times.
Repeat until all the cookie circles are filled.
*Optional step: have the students pat the play dough circles to cover each gingerbread cookie shape and then use a cookie cutter to cut out play dough gingerbread cookies!
Students then transfer each cookie to the plate mats, saying each target word as they stack the cookies on the plate.
My kids absolutely love this one!
