PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

Happy Holidays to you all! Please enjoy this holiday {FREEBIE}!

This holiday themed packet was created as a companion to the book: Gingerbread Baby, by: Jan Brett. Included in this packet are activities that target sequencing, story retell, comprehension, basic language concepts, early print awareness, and oral and written expression. The activities in this packet were created by Mindy Stenger, M.A., CCC-SLP (The Speech Bucket).

Pages 2 – 5 target story sequencing, and story retell. The larger pictures (pages 2 - 4) can be used for a classroom story board, for small group instruction, or for individual sessions/interventions. The smaller pictures (pages 5) are included on a worksheet. The students can cut them out, fill in the blanks to sequence the story, re-tell it (in a whole group or small group activity), and then take it home to their parents. Parents love to hear and see the story that you read with their kids during school! {RL.K.2, RL.1.2}

Page 6 targets story comprehension (and identifying the types of questions being asked – e.g., who, what, when, where, why, how). Questions can be asked in a group setting or individually for more intensive instruction. {RL.K.1, RI.K.1, SL.K.2, RL.1.1, RI.1.1, SL.1.2}

Pages 7 – 10 target picture identification, matching, and early print awareness. Name (or receptively find) the story character on the first page (page 7) then cut out the pictures on the second page (page 8) and glue them to the match on the previous page. On page 9, the characters are listed by their printed name. Students first trace the word, then find the matching picture (page 10), cut out, and glue it to the correct printed name on the first page (page 9). {RF.K1b, RF.K.3, RF.1.3}

Page 11 targets oral and written language expression by describing, and/or drawing their perfect gingerbread house! This can be done as a whole group or small group language activity, asking questions that allow for a language rich conversation and several opportunities for using descriptive language (e.g., What would your gingerbread house look like? What would it smell like? What materials would you need? Would you need to ask someone to help you? etc…), individually as a center activity or as a small group or individual language therapy activity. {W.K.1, W.1.1}
