Description

This winter RAFT writing task has students creating their own gingerbread character using their imagination (anything goes!) and a variety of teacher-supplied materials (suggested materials are listed and they are basic!). Then students write diary entries about their gingerbread character's greatest adventure ever, in hopes that it will be entertaining enough to be turned into a movie. You can use this resource in Kindergarten and 1st grade as a shared writing activity. You can also use this resource in 2nd grade, 3rd grade, 4th grade, and 5th grade.

This resource includes:
-Teacher tips page
-Student directions page
-Graphic organizer
-Diary pages (3 formats so students can choose which they need)

I love to give my students RAFT writing tasks, and I am sure you will, too! It gives students an authentic reason to write and makes it more fun. Many of my students who were reluctant to write actually began to enjoy it, because they were able to take on different roles for different purposes using a variety of formats. It also enriches those higher students, because they have to put themselves into the role go another and really think about the voice they will use.
