Designed for children 3-5 years old with a need for structured learning task, my Gingerbread Counting File Folder Game is the beginning of teaching numbers and counting.
I'm at the point where I'm ready to start introducing the concepts of counting and numbers to my students, but they're still really struggling with learning new skills and slowing down enough to let me teach the new skills. In considering these learning behaviors, I came up with what I think is a great way to structure learning to count. Each file folder has circles with a gingerbread house illustrating 1-10 pieces of candy in each circle. The matching pieces have the numbers 1-10 on them, also on circles and the circles are a solid color which matches the color of the circle.
Children can match either by counting or by matching color. This activity is intended to teach children the act of matching a number to a group of items. It is not intended to be a measure of whether children can actually count and match the correct number.
