Are you looking for a December writing project that will truly engage your students? This persuasive writing project may be just what you are looking for! Very comprehensive and many examples included!

Students begin by considering who LIKES gingerbread houses (people who like sweets), and what type of "holiday house" a person who does NOT like sweets might like. The teacher leads students in brainstorming various "audiences" and what type of "holiday house" they might want to eat. (For example, people that prefer healthy foods might like a house made with fruits and/or vegetables. People who love pizza might like a "holiday house" made with pizza toppings!)

Next, students design their houses (with their chosen audience in mind, and using a reproducible planner) and then draw their houses. Then, students fill out their writing planner (reproducible) and write their persuasive rough draft. Finally, students complete the writing process by planning, revising, editing, conferencing with a teacher, and publishing.
