Developmentally appropriateGingerbread literacy centers for the preschool, pre-k, and kindergarten classroom! This resource is perfect for all developmental and cognitive levels of early childhood. The centers are fun, engaging, and offer challenges and reinforcement of basic skills.
This resource is set up with 3 levels of developmentally appropriate Beginning Sounds and Letter centers for the early childhood classroom. Every class is different, every student is different, so this resource gives you the option of starting out slowly, building on what your students know, and offering a challenge as skills are mastered.
Level 1: Letters & Sounds 2-part Puzzles
This beginning level will introduce that each letter has a sound. Each self-correcting puzzle has a lowercase letter on one part of the puzzle and a beginning sound picture on the connecting piece. There are 2 ways to work this center…find the beginning sounds pictures to match the letter, or find the letter to match the beginning sounds pictures on the larger piece.
Level 2: Letters & Sounds Match
This activity builds on the first by introducing both uppercase and lowercase letters along with a beginning sound picture to match-up. This center will allow students to use their knowledge of upper and lowercase letters to assist them in completing the center beginning sound picture. This will help you to introduce and emphasize the beginning sound of each letter.
Level 3: Beginning Sounds Buttons!
This activity builds on the first two, but adds the element of finding MORE beginning sounds pictures for each letter. Each mat has an uppercase and a lowercase letter, plus a gingerbread man who needs some buttons. Students search for the correct buttons by finding buttons with the correct beginning sound pictures! Choose a few or all of the letters in the alphabet depending on how big a challenge you would like to present to your students!
Choose the center that works best for your class!
