Developmentally appropriate Gingerbread literacy centers for the preschool, pre-k, and kindergarten classroom! This resource is perfect for all developmental and cognitive levels of early childhood. The centers are fun, engaging, and offer challenges and reinforcement of basic skills.
This resource is set up with 3 levels of developmentally appropriate Vocabulary centers for the early childhood classroom. Every class is different, every student is different, so this resource gives you the option of starting out slowly, building on what your students know, and offering a challenge as skills are mastered.
Level 1: Gingerbread Vocabulary Matching
This beginning level will reinforce the vocabulary being taught during your Gingerbread Unit. Students look at the pictures, name the picture and find the match! You may choose to use all of the matching cards or just a few. Make sure to talk about the Gingerbread stories you have been reading during the week making note of similarities and differences.
Level 2: Gingerbread Vocabulary Bingo!
This center activity builds on the matching activity. Using the same vocabulary words, we repeat the words and find the pictures from the Gingerbread stories we have been reading during the unit. There are 4 20-picture Bingo cards and 4 12-picture Bingo cards to choose from . Each of the 4 cards has the same pictures, but in different places. Use buttons or other markers to cover the pictures as the vocabulary cards are drawn. Make sure you take away the 8 cards not used if playing with the 12 picture Bingo cards.
Level 3: Thanksgiving Noun & Verb Sort
This activity builds on the first two, but adds the element of finding MORE rhyming words. Each Mat has a anchor word for the rhyming family. Each anchor word has 2-4 words in the same rhyming family. Students are challenged to find all the words in the represented rhyming families.
This activity brings it all together! After reading The Gingerbread Man Story, break into small groups and retell the story through fun and engaging sequencing cards. There are 2 levels to this activity; a 4-part sequencing activity for your earliest learners, and a 6-part sequencing activity to challenge reading comprehension!
