Product Description
Developmentally appropriate Gingerbread literacy centers for the preschool, pre-k, and kindergarten classroom! This resource is perfect for all developmental and cognitive levels of early childhood. The centers are fun, engaging, and offer challenges and reinforcement of basic skills.

This resource is set up with 3 levels of developmentally appropriate writing and fine motor centers for the early childhood classroom. Every class is different, every student is different, so this resource gives you the option of starting out slowly, building on what your students know, and offering a challenge as skills are mastered

Centers Included:

Level 1: Fill-in Lines Vertical and Horizontal

This beginning level will help students practice using their “pinching” fingers to grip a dry erase marker. I usually start my kiddos out with a fat marker. Practice pinching the marker close to the writing tip. Instruct the students to follow the lines with the marker by drawing directly over the line. Remind the students to ‘pinch’, but do not force it. Both horizontal and vertical lines are included. You can also choose to fill in the blank space with erasers or jumbo perler beads-even play-doh! This can be frustrating for some kids, take it slow and celebrate their progress!

Level 2: Fill in the Letters!

This center activity builds on the tracing activity by filling in both uppercase and lowercase letters. I have used small erasers, but you can also use beads, buttons, play-doh, or small manipulatives. Allow the students to start with the first letter of their names, and choose additional letters if they finish quickly. This is a great exploration of letters and how to form them.

Level 3: Trace & Write Gingerbread Vocabulary! 3-5 letter words

This activity builds on the first two. In this activity the letters to trace are smaller and inside lines, and make actual Gingerbread vocabulary words. The pictures help the students who cannot read figure out what word they are writing. This activity shows these emergent writers how letters are spaced in words.

Choose the level that will work best for your class!
