Spice up your Gingerbread Celebrations with this Gingerbread Day Unit! Included are some new and fresh ideas hopefully, that you can add to your unit or use as is. There are 8 stations provided that include math, literacy, science, art, and movement. The stations are appropriate for young learners, grades Kindergarten through Second Grade. The traditional Gingerbread Man story is the focus, but others are included to match the versions you're using.
Included in the unit are the following:
Station Signs- 8 Full Page Posters to show students where stations are
My Gingerbread House: Students will make a paper house that opens at the doors. A cute poem is attached and you can use your students' pictures for the gingerbread man's face! So cute!
Gingerbread Hat: This easy to assemble gingerbread hat will be the hit of the party. Your students will be the cutest in the school!
Story Retelling Kit: Students will create a gingerbread house from an envelope! There are character cut-outs included that fit inside the envelope when students are retelling the story. A variety of story characters (versions) are included along with decorations for the envelope house. Regular greeting card envelopes are used.
Sly Fox Puppet: This station is unique because there are student direction cards to make a fox puppet from only heart and circle shapes. Students can follow along on the four direction cards to make their own puppet they'll be proud of.
Gingerbread Man Move It! This is a brain-break Scoot Game or small group game for stations. Students do various movement tasks (pretend to roll the dough, run in place away from the fox) that are related to the story. On your say or music direction, students travel to another desk/card and perform that story related task.
My Gingerbread Height: Include math into your stations by having students measure themselves with gingerbread men cutouts. This form of nonstandard measurement will have your students engaged by lying on the floor and measuring each others' heights. There is a reflection printable and gingerbread men cut outs included.
Rolling Down Gingerbread Lane: This is a partner dice game that uses addition and skill in trying to get rid of all your numbers first. Add some candies as markers to make it even more fun!
Crossing the River: This is a Makerspace/STEM station. Students are given the predicament they are the gingerbread man and need to cross the river quick! So they must build a bridge with whatever building materials you have on hand (blocks, bricks, cubes, tubes, etc.) and their finished bridge must be able to hold a figurine (gingerbread man) for five seconds. A reflection printable is included.
