This is a great activity to use as a conclusion to your Gingerbread Man unit. You may also choose to use it in the beginning of the school year to introduce your new students to the school.
Read the book, “The Gingerbread Man Loose in the School.” On the last page of the book, attach the “Hello” note from the Gingerbread Man, along with the first clue that you want to use. (I have also placed the note in an envelope and left in on my chair during recess) Act surprised and have your kiddos read the clue (or read it to them).
Follow the clues around the school in an attempt to catch the Gingerbread Man--but you keep missing him. Choose which clues you want to use and leave them around the school (I have previously left the clue with the “person in charge”, or taped the clue in a conspicuous place).
Coordinate with someone to come in and leave a snack of gingerbread cookies, or something similar, on each student's desk. We usually decorate the cookies.
Included in this Scavenger Hunt set are the following items:
12 clues to different places around the school, in color and in black and white:
-office (2 versions)
There are also a blank pages in color and black and white for you to write your own clues.
3 notes for you to use with your kiddos
1 note from the Gingerbread Man, 1 note from you (for you to sign), 1 blank note for you to write your own special message
I hope you enjoy this!
