Many teachers including me use the story of the Gingerbread Man to introduce the school environment to children on the first week of school.
After reading the story book and showing a gingerbread man cookie, the gingerbread man runs away and the children go on a gingerbread hunt.
They look for him at the library, lunch room, music room and so on.
My students never find the gingerbread man but when we return to the classroom he has left us his friends and they all get to decorate and eat a gingerbread man of their own.
All week long we reread the story or different versions of it and then the students work on different gingerbread man activities.
This gingerbread unit includes some of those activities.
1. Gingerbread man paper bag puppet pattern.
2. Gingerbread man math flash cards. Students can color these.
3 Draw corresponding buttons to number on gingerbread man.
4. Color word gingerbread men. Students color these. (10 color words)
5. Connect the dots to form a gingerbread man.
Hope your students enjoy these activities as much as mine do.
