Build a Gingerbread Cookie: Shape Button Visual Discrimination Activity
This hands-on math and fine motor center is perfect for a winter theme, gingerbread theme, or bakery theme in any Preschool or Kindergarten classroom. If you’ve got a bin full of shape buttons or manipulatives tucked away, this is the perfect low-prep activity to put them to use.
These Gingerbread Shape Visual Discrimination Cards and Activity Mats give students the opportunity to practice copying patterns, matching shapes, and building visual-spatial skills. Students simply look at the task card, identify the shapes shown, and recreate the gingerbread cookie design on their own empty mat using shape manipulatives.
These 8 shapes are included: circle, oval, star, heart, rectangle, square, triangle, & diamond.
What's included?
- 1 Task Box Cover (color)
- 24 Task Cards
- task cards print 4 to a page in color only
- Gingerbread Mats (color and black/white)
- Printable Buttons (8 shapes in 6 Colors = 48 buttons)
- Print on cardstock and laminate. Use these printable buttons if you do not have plastic buttons (or are missing certain shapes!)
Material Options:
- Shape Buttons
- Felt Pieces cut into buttons shapes
- Any small Shape Manipulative in these shapes: circle, oval, star, heart, rectangle, square, triangle, & diamond
Add these cards with your shape buttons (or manipulative of choice) for a quick set up for math centers, small groups or task box independent work this winter. Students will love decorating their gingerbread cookies with shapes.
