The Giver by Lois Lowry - Character Review Activity

SUBJECT: English, Language Arts, Novel Study
LEVEL: Upper Elementary, Middle School

Are you looking for engaging and integrated resources to help your students review key facts and important details about the character of Jonas in The Giver by Lois Lowry?

Through the completion of this activity, students will reflect back on the story and brainstorm the six key events that they think were most important to Jonas. They will then use the included template to write a summary of each key event. Later, they will use the included head template to illustrate each of the important events. Writing and illustrating each key event will help students reflect back on their learning and retain information.

All resources are classroom tested and include detailed instructions and creative handouts. Very little teacher prep in needed – simply print and teach!

While all of the resources included in this package can be successfully used as-is, they work great when placed into an Interactive Notebook. Interactive Notebooks are powerful tools to enable students to be creative, independent thinkers and writers. Interactive Notebooks allow students to express their ideas in unique ways, and process information presented in class. Completed Interactive Notebooks become valuable study tools for students to reflect back on, and are great as a record of student progress over time.

All resources included in this package can easily be aligned to the common core standards.

This creative and engaging package includes the following:

"What's Going on Inside the Mind of Jonas" Activity Instructions: A full page of information explaining the activity in detail is included.

”Key Event Summaries” Sheets: Students use the two included pages to write about the six events of the novel that they think were most important to Jonas.

”What's Going on Inside the Mind of Jonas” Template: Students use the included blank head template to illustrate the six events from the novel that they think were most important to Jonas.
