This handout, combined with a map, gives basically a whole lesson on giving directions - and all in an extremely simple way, both to teach and learn.
The mind map splits "Giving Directions" into 3 easy stages, which can be easily taught and learned, and which are presented visually, using traffic light colours as well as being laid out on the page from left to right, enabling easy recall for the students.
- Work with a simple map for basic students to give directions to and from places (you can even draw or produce your own, which is what I tend to do).
- Tell the students that there are essentially 3 steps for giving directions.
- When they give directions, on the mind map, they should start with the green step, then move onto either the yellow or orange step (they can choose which) and finish with the red step.
- That's all - it is that simple. Have a look at the mind map, and you will find this lesson and vocab extremely easy to teach.
