**New NYS Global Regents Style Constructed-Response**
These document analysis tasks cover material commonly taught in Global Studies 9 in New York State.
These writing prompts are modeled on the new New York State Global History and Geography Regents examinations to be rolled out in 2019. The task consists of two documents for students to analyze. Students address historical and geographic context, factors affecting reliability of the source, and interpret the sources by compare-contrast, cause-effect, or explaining a turning point.
I started including these in each topic in my classes in 2016-2017, anticipating that students would need a lot of regular and systematic practice doing this kind of task. I was right and I found it takes them some months to get it.
As I apply this task in my classroom, it is a composition students write. On the Regents it will be answering questions. Students who are experienced can write one of these in about a class period, maybe 65 minutes. I treat it as a task without notes, but I tell them what historical context to review before they sit for it.
The contents of this ZIP compressed file include:
1. 9 tasks in PDF format modeled on the new constructed response tasks as described at EngageNY for the new Global Regents exam. They are numbered to match the NYS Social Studies Frameworks topics with which they are associated.

3. my own grading rubric based on NYSED guidelines
I have posted a separate product for training students to do these kinds of tasks in my TpT store. That package includes several PowerPoints and a a number of samples of student-like work to illustrate common pitfalls and grading on the rubric.
