Background: You work for an online book store. Your job this week will be filling book club shopping orders for teachers in fifth grade classrooms in ten different states for a Global Book Club next month. Each teacher has a specific list of books he or she wants for the book clubs in the classroom with the quantities of each book needed.

Task: It is your job to fill each teacher’s order and provide the teacher with a subtotal, the amount of their sales tax, and a grand total. The price of each book is listed below on the spine of each book on the book shelf. The state tax for each state can be found for 2019 in the table in this resource.

*For success, use this project with students who understand how to multiply two multi-digit decimals using the standard algorithm as well as add decimals (money).

Note: When printing, you'll need to photocopy 10 sets of the student worksheets (recording sheets on pages 6 and 7) so that students have one sheet (back-to-back) for each "teacher" listed in the project.
