Bundle Description

Save 20% with this BUNDLE that covers some of the hot topics facing the United States today. This bundle explores our relationship with China, Cuba, and Afghanistan. There is also a unit that explores the issues surrounding immigration today as well as a unit that looks at how we protect our country from the threat of terrorism. These units were developed for students with autism and special learning needs who are in middle or especially high school. They are perfect for emerging readers, or even students who cannot read at all.

There are lots of suggestions for ways to differentiate and support your students even more with very little extra work on your part.

✩✩✩Looking for a FREE lesson plan to use with these units?

I have one for you here: FREE General Lesson Plan

✩✩✩In the near future, I will be working on some additional units that will be in a separate bundle and will cover:

  • Global connections
  • US & Mexico Relations
  • US & Middle East Relations
  • The role of the US in the changing world

My prediction is that these will be completed by the end of February.

See the preview of each unit for a more detailed look at the contents.

Each Unit is very similar in how it was put together. Most include:

  • A book
  • A recording of the book in a power point show version
  • Vocabulary board to use while teaching
  • Vocabulary cards
  • Circle maps for organizing information and quick assessment
  • Sorting activities
  • Maps to label and color
  • Timelines (large cards as well as a cut and paste version)
  • Cause and Effect activity
  • Writing prompt
  • Close worksheets to review smaller sections of the material
  • Assessment with answer key (3 differentiated versions)

(Most activities are in color and BW)

Much of what I have learned about curriculum development is incorporated in these units. For example, do not be afraid of repetition. It is critical that students with significant disabilities get to experience material over several days to be able to fully assimilate what is being taught. Also, adding visual supports to your printables and class activities helps students be able to pay more attention to the content you are presenting rather than the mechanics of what is expected. Finally, ask questions. Good questions!! Regardless of the material, if we can ask students good questions it will push them to think more deeply than before.

As always please take a moment to leave feedback or post any questions you may have. Remember, you will gain credit toward future purchase on tpt as you leave more and more feedback!!

I am currently developing more units, and any feedback I get helps me make improvements in the future. Plus, it just means a lot to me.
