I am going to use this ppt as my day 2 geography review for global history. In this ppt, I review the following terms: Peninsula, archipelago, isthmus, canal, island. I first have students do a quick warm up where they brainstorm about the impact of geography on the way people live. Next, we examine basic geographical terms (see above). I have included a handout that teachers can print from the slide to fill in terms.
Next, teachers can print and distribute the high quality digital map included in the slides. Students should try to find the physical features listed in red, next to the orange arrow. They can see which ones they can find before the teacher goes over it as a whole class. The ppt walks through each physical feature and lets students fill in their maps. The teacher should also briefly give students some important information on each as they review these important features.
Next, there is a game where students can guess whether each picture listed is a peninsula, archipelago, or island.
