I developed this lesson as the fifth in a series for a survey-style Global History course for summer school that was intended to assist students succeed at the August Regents. Using the essential question, "What's the best way to govern people?", students are introduced to the basic forms of government (e.g., democracy, monarchy) while discussing the key contributions of Ancient Greece and comparing Athens to Sparta. The lesson refers to an excerpt from the book Enjoying Global History, as well as musical tracks from Hip Hop History of the World, but these can be replaced or subtracted. The PowerPoint and lesson plan are in the file, including graphic organizers, venn diagrams, Regents-style essay preparation activity, and Regents-style multiple choice questions.
