I developed this lesson as the thirteenth in a series for a survey-style Global History course for summer school that was intended to assist students in succeeding at the August Regents. Beginning with the question "What turning points are we living through right now?", students are introduced to four major historical shifts that are often useful for several common prompts of the Regents-style thematic essay: The Scientific Revolution, the Protestant Reformation, the Enlightenment, and the French Revolution. The PowerPoint and lesson plan are attached, including a graphic organizer that helps to synthesize and summarize these four broad topics. There is a text that is referenced in the LP that is not included due to copyright laws, but this can be replaced or subtracted from the lesson without taking away from the overall review.
