Use this activity to teach students about thermal energy, chemical reactions, and measuring temperature using thermometers. This activity guides students through the scientific method in a fun way.
All you need is: 3 glow sticks per group, 3 cups, warm water, cold water, thermometers, and these activity pages!
This teaches that heat causes particles to move faster (which causes the chemicals in glow sticks to mix faster and glow brighter when placed in warm water.) The glow sticks glow less brightly when placed in cold water.
This one is especially fun to use around Halloween, but it can be used any time of year during a unit on Heat.
Be sure to visit my store for other Inquiry Labs using this format!
