This is a lab you can do with middle grades students to demonstrate how temperature affects the rate/speed of a chemical reaction. It describes a lab where groups of students use graduated cylinders filled with hot and cold water and observe the difference in glow from glow sticks. Students like this one a lot!
Contains a lab sheet, data sheet with a place for hypothesis/prediction, and 5 reflection questions.
I also have a PowerPoint that describes the different factors that change the rate of chemical reactions - here
. this lab is a great exploratory introduction to this topic or as reinforcement after it is already taught! I also have other rate of reactions labs like this Sugar Cube Lab.
