Three different Gnome's Path Home cell vocabulary review matching activities are included! Students will find the gnome’s path home by completing the matching activity. The first card will say “Start” and have the first question. Find the answer to the first question and place it above the start card. The card that has the first answer will also have the second question. Continue to find the matches until you have created the gnome’s entire path home. The last card will have the last answer and will also say “Gnome Sweet Home”.
This is a differentiated activity that consists of 6 task cards. The first two tasks are easier. Task #1 and #2 require students to complete a 9 card matching task that reviews 8 cell related vocabulary words each. Both of these tasks are a great option for students who may get overwhelmed with too many vocabulary cards at one time. It is also a good option to use if you do not have as much time. Task #3 will be easier for students to do if they have completed tasks #1 and #2.
Task #3 will require students to complete an 18 card matching task that reviews 17 cell related vocabulary words. This is a great option for students who love a challenge.! You may choose to let some or all of your students start with this task.
Task #4 is an analogy activity. Students will compare parts of a cell to parts of a city. Students will draw lines on their answer sheets that make the right connections between analogous parts.
Task #5 is a color coding activity. Students will answer questions about cells by color coding specific sections of their answer sheet.
Task #6 contains two writing prompts. Students will use their critical thinking skills to answer these questions.
Color and black line versions of each matching activity are provided. I love printing these on different colors of paper. I then give each group a different color.
Use these activities with individuals, pairs, or groups of students. An answer sheet is provided.
This is an "EASY PREP" activity. All you need to do is print, laminate, and cut the cards. The cards are not in order on the sheets so you could require the students to cut out their own cards. Give each student or group of students a copy of the answer sheet. Tasks 1-3 can be done without the answer sheet if you would like to visually check their work instead.
The following topics are reviewed with this activity: eukaryote, prokaryote, cell membrane, cell wall, chloroplast, mitochondria, golgi apparatus, ribosomes, nucleus, DNA, rough endoplasmic reticulum, smooth endoplasmic reticulum, vacuoles, cytoplasm, cytoskeleton, and cilia.
