Print the word and picture cards. Print the game mat if using. Two options are available: full color and a blackline version you can print on regular or colored paper/cardstock. Laminate your cards to make them more durable and then cut them apart.
This game is played like the traditional game of Go Fish. Shuffle/mix up cards and deal seven cards to each player/team. The remaining cards are placed face down on the game mat (if using) or on the table. Players look at their cards and lay down (face up) any matches they have. A match = a word and matching picture. When all players have looked at their cards, the player going first asks a player of their choosing “Do you have a (picture)?” or “Do you have the word (word)?” If the player has the word or picture they must give it to the person who asked them. If they do not have it they say, “Go fish!” The player will draw one card. If they make a match, they lay it down. If they do not make a match, their turn is over.
Play continues until someone runs out of cards. The player or team with the most matches at the end of the game wins.
Four follow up activities are included where students practice spelling words with both a beginning and ending sh sound, identifying words with sh at the beginning and end, and writing sentences with sh words.
