I use this as a warm-up before the lesson. I introduce the math magic word and answer the question below it. Students practice saying the word and defining it and we put it on our math vocab word wall.
I have students complete the problem of the day (POD) in their notebook in partners, as a class, or individually.
Vocab race directions: On the review slides there are vocab races. Split class up into four teams. Each team has a writer and a runner to start with. The writer writes the definition or draws an example of the vocab word on a dry erase board and the runner brings the answer to the teacher at the front of the board. If the answer is correct then the teacher crosses out the word. The team rotates the job of writer and runner until everyone has had a turn doing the job.
Included are two vocab race games, and warm ups for lessons 2.1-2.12.
