Tag can be a great warm up activity, motivating filler between skill instruction, or simply a chance to have fun moving around. Kids need opportunities to learn how to control their bodies while moving through space and be able to practice how to touch each other appropriately without injury. Under proper supervision, the lesson tag teaches a kid far outweighs the purported “risks” of kids harming themselves. Keep the game safe, fair and fun by presetting students with simple rules. Run-through stopping drills with little people if ever the action appears to be boiling over the top. Kids will typically respond and learn with a consistent leader directing the energy. Teachers that maintain a fun atmosphere while still enforcing the rules guarantee a request to replay.
