Goal Setting Classroom Lesson for High School Students

This Goal Setting Lesson for High School Students helps high school counselors engage their teen students with goal setting, problem-solving, and belief in their own abilities. This resource can be used as a classroom lesson or a "lunch and learn" lesson series. Students will focus on SMART goal setting, overcoming barriers, establishing accountability, recognizing self-talk, and putting actions to their words. An additional facilitator guide is included for extra questions for parenting and pregnant teen students.

Students will be able to analyze the influence of their family and peers on their goals, consider their own decision-making skills as they establish their short and long-term goals, and hone in on their self-management skills. As they practice goal setting, they'll be able to advocate for themselves and move forward to achieve the goals that they set.
