Goal setting can be a great way to intrinsically motivate students in the classroom. Guide your students toward setting and achieving both short-term and long-term goals with this goal setting guide. Reading is one of the goal-setting categories, but this activity can be used in any classroom. Students are not only asked to set a reading goal, they are also prompted to set academic goals and personal goals. By connecting your class to your students' other classes and their world outside school, you bring relevancy to the assignment and get to know your students a little better. A goal self-evaluation and reflection is also included so students can revisit their goals at the end of the year or the end of your class and evaluate their own growth and progress.
This activity is great for the beginning of the year, or the beginning of a unit. It can be used as a beginning and ending writing evaluation or simply for fun.
