This lesson will be based upon a picture book by Patricia C. McKissak called Goin' Someplace Special. This story involves some of the critical concepts of segregation in the US. In this story, the main character comes face to face with the challenges of segregation in order to get to her Someplace Special (the library). After reading the story, the students will have an opportunity to draw/write about their "Someplace Special."
