This activity provides practice in identifying the value of a digit in 4-6 digit numbers.
It follows the common core standard of 3.NBT.2: Fluently add and subtract within 1,000 using strategies and algorithms based on place value, properties of operations and/or the relationship between addition and subtraction.
Before students can add and subtract with greater numbers, they need to know the value of the digits based on the place that it is located.
Students match the two acorns that match: example if the 7 in 7,582 is underlined, then they would match it with the acorn that says 7,000.
This activity can be played individually at a center or with a partner or small group as a concentration game or a go fish type of game.
