I created this quick and easy to use packet for multiple reasons. First and foremost, everyone is excited about the Olympics. Even for our students who may not have access to a television, they’ve heard the rumbling. Also though, to create some excitement about learning these words.
In special education, goals are frequently written around sight words and building our students’ repertoires of easy to recognize words. For some of our students, they have seen these words presented 100 different ways and are still working really hard to master them. Here’s another way to present them!
I also have students that LOVE to get anything – stickers, gifts, etc. As they master a word, would it hurt to tie a ribbon through the medal and hang it around their neck? Have a medal ceremony? Collect as many medals as you can? It’s just another simple way to get students actively engaged in their own learning. I can’t wait to start using them myself!
Simply print as many sheets as you need, cut them out, hole punch them, and stick a ribbon through. If you laminate them, they can be reused; otherwise, let the kids decorate them! It be a great morning work activity too!
