Children with autism need planning and preparation prior to going on an airplane. This social story and accompanying activities are just what's needed to help them prepare for the trip and know what to expect. This packet is for parents of children with autism or other developmental challenges to prepare the child for the airport and airplane (security, sights and sounds of airport, wearing a seatbelt, not kicking the seat, and more). It can also be used by a special educator or SLP to prepare a child with autism for a plane trip. I find it helpful to review prior to spring break or summer air travel!
This social story contains both child-friendly clip art and actual photographs of airports and children on airplanes. There are 18 color pages and you can pick and choose the ones you want to use with the child. The story can be printed and laminated or you can choose to show it on your laptop, I pad or smart board.
Also included are two pages of black and white travel tips for parents traveling with a child with autism. These same tips may be helpful with flying with a child with other developmental challenges too.
The power cards for the airport and airplane are provided in both color and black and white.
There are 10 pages of no prep black and white activities related to airport travel: These activities are designed to help with preparing child for the trip and some can be done on the airplane.
