This could be used during any reading or social studies lesson that talks about mining for gold. I used it when we were studying Africa. On one day, I had them find stones and small rocks outside and then paint them to use for gold. The next day I hid "gold" around the room, and the kids when "mining for gold". They then got in groups of 3 and graphed how much gold each student in their group found. They then answered questions about the graph. The kids loved it!
