This Reader's Theater is part IV of a series of four stories that explain the western expansion of the United States.
It could be performed by 2-6 people
It includes President James Polk, and John Sutter and his worker, Marshall, and newspaperman, Sam Brannan.
It explains how gold was first discovered in California, and how/why people rushed to California to search for it.
It also explains how most people didn't get rich off of gold, but ended up staying and developing towns that eventually grew to cities in California.
Finally, it tells how the effect of the Gold Rush was that the U.S. decided to officially make California a state.
