The golden ratio activity is broken into four parts. In part one students will measure rectangular objects found in the room and then record their data in a table. In part two they will create a scatter plot of the data. In part three they will use the graph to find the line of best fit for their data. In part four, they will answer analysis questions about the graph and their regression line. If the students measure and graph correctly, the slope of their regression line will be close to the golden ratio (1.61803398875)
I use this as a group activity for sub plans or as an planned Alternative Method Instruction day for snow.
EXTENSION activity! The students use their knowledge of the golden ratio to find examples of its application in nature, art, and the business world. They are also asked to create their own example of how the golden ratio can be used.
