Here's an easy and creative way to cover several Common Core Standards while reading Goldilocks and the Three Bears. All it takes is a bit of art!
Simply print off the characters, settings and objects. Included are the 3 Bears, Goldilocks, a Table, 3 Bowls of porridge, 3 Chairs, 3 Beds, a Cottage and a Tree. Because you'll need more than 1 tree for a forest; this activity can accommodate up to 23 students or as few as 14. Each student will make a part of the story their own by coloring and cutting out a character or object. Then just gather everyone in front of a white board (or you could use poster boards) for the reading of Goldilocks. Listening skills will be enhanced as your students anticipate placing their part of the story on the board. The characters can be moved around as the story is told. When completed, it's easy to continue practicing lots of Common Core Standards like these:
Identifying the characters, setting and major events in a story.
Retelling a story.
Actively engage in a group reading activity.
Sort common objects into categories.
(I've included labels for categories, characters, settings...)
That's not all...Here's a complete list of CCS:
