This fun, engaging lesson is perfect for meeting CCSS 2.MD.8! Students complete activities by "shopping" at the Cent and Dollar Shop. The separate shops allow students the opportunity to practice both bill and coin combination problem types.

What’s Included:
*Standard explanation, suggested Mathematical Practice and Vocabulary
*Learning Targets- Student friendly “I can” Statements
*Cent Shop Ad- Students use the ad as a reference sheet to complete pages 7-11.
*Let’s Go Shopping (pg.7)- Students choose 4 different items from the Cent Shop Ad to purchase. They show 2 different ways to purchase each item using quick sketches.
*Let’s Go Shopping (pg. 8)- Students find the sum of the items and 2 possible ways to pay for them.
*Is it enough? (pg. 9-10)- Students are presented with different coin combinations. They must decided whether it is enough to purchase the given items.
*Write your own! (pg. 11)- Students come up with their own story problem based off of two items purchased from the Cent Shop. Students then switch with a partner who solves on the bottom portion of the worksheet.
*Dollar Shop Ad- Students use the ad as a reference sheet to complete pages 13-17.
*Let’s Go Shopping (pg.13)- Students choose 4 different items from the Dollar Shop Ad to purchase. They show 2 different ways to purchase each item using quick sketches.
*Let’s Go Shopping (pg. 14)- Students find the sum of the items and 2 possible ways to pay for them.
*Is it enough? (pg. 15-16)- Students are presented with different bill combinations. They must decided whether it is enough to purchase the given items.
*Write your own! (pg. 17)- Students come up with their own story problem based off of two or more items purchased from the Dollar Shop. Students then switch with a partner who solves on the bottom portion of the worksheet.
