Students love to learn about the history of individuals, and there are many citizens that make wonderful examples of good citizenship. This project can go well with civic holidays, cultural history months, or the general study of citizenship qualities. This project walks teachers and students through the process of researching and writing a three paragraph expository essay on a great American citizen. Aligned to third grade standards, it is also appropriate for advanced second graders or struggling fourth or fifth graders. Included are explicit instructions for students; printable sheets to structure research, writing, and presentation; and guidelines for implementation and grading rubrics for teachers.
